ABOUT THE FACILITY

The Thurston County Law Enforcement Center is home to the Thurton County Sheriffs Department, Pender Division, Thurston County Communication, and the Thurston County Jail. This new facility was build out of necessity as the old 25-bed jail was constructed in the basement of the Courthouse in the 1920s. With multiple safety concerns and being grandfathers in on some standards, it was decided to build a new jail by a 5 to 2 vote of the county board in 2014 and a $5.9 million dollar bond issued in April 2015 to fund the facility.

The new facility was built with a 34-bed jail facility, a communications/dispatch center, evidence storage, a video visitation area, and office space for all personnel. The jail facility includes an indoor and outdoor recreation area, Multi-media rooms, Laundry facilities, Kitchen, a Medical office, contact and noncontact visitation rooms, and enough storage to house all equipment.

The Sheriff's Office and jail were the first to move into the facility in March of 2017 with Communication moving in December of 2019.
