VIN Check / Vehicle Inspection
Overview
A vehicle inspection for the State of Nebraska may be conducted by any County Sheriff or holder of a current certificate of training.
The inspection includes an examination and notation of the current odometer reading and a comparison of VINs. The fee is $10, and is credited to the County Sheriff's Inspection account with the county general fund.
While this inspection may be performed by any authorized Sheriff's Office employee in the State of Nebraska, you must present your vehicle's documentation to the County Clerk in your county of residence to obtain your vehicle title and registration.

Vehicles exempt from inspection:

When an application is being made for a Salvage title or a Non-Transferable title

Vehicles with a Nebraska Certificate of Title, a Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin, a U.S. Government Certificate Title, or a (duly licensed) Dealer's Inspection Exemption Certificate

Vehicles registered through the Nebraska DMV Motor Carriers Division

Cabin trailers
-
Pop-up trailers
-
Mobile homes
-
Travel trailers
-
Camping trailers

Pro-rated tractors (non-motorized)
Vehicles that must be inspected:

Any vehicle or motorcycle with an out-of-state title

Any vehicle with a Salvage Certificate of Title

Dump trucks

Grain trailers
-
Assembled trailers
-
Livestock trailers & tractors that are not pro-rated

Semi-trailers
-
Boat trailers if pulled by a truck or a non-pro-rated tractor
